Someone recommended it on the free stuff and i just check it.Found out it is really unique logic game with rare interactivity gameplay you see. It need a lot of optimization and i think if the creator can make out this unique and not repetitive type of puzzles , for sure it will be an hit with good price as the other indie devs if the sequel get more investment making it more polish.

P.S. add an IQ score in the requirement spec  :P

(+1)

I was watching a streamer play this, and after 10 minutes of wreckingball I closed the stream and downloaded it. And I just blew up. This game is genuinely fresh and fantastic, but it brought my computer to its knees. His recommendation is correct, your computer better be a chonky boy. 10/10

(+1)

i saw someone streaming this game, immediately bought it and beat it in less than two hours, and all i could think the whole time is "this game is so cool!" so thanks for that original puzzle game, i loved it. really hope the sequel comes to fruition, what i've read about it has me already hype :D

(+2)

halp i can't play it. i downloaded it and extracted the files but it won't let me run it.... ;-;

(+1)

Interesting.. Does something happen when you click on it?

Ah nah sorry m8. That bundle was from a while ago, I dunno why some places still say it's free

It's free now

yo can you make a sound board for the shark creature

or give it a name so i can try learn the language on my guitar?

Oh wow that's awesome! Um, I don't actually have a soundboard on hand because the pitch shifting is actually done roughly through code, so the best way to learn would be to just imitate it. For a proper name, though... I would say Corne, as in: speaking Corne.

(2 edits)

It crashes for me, can't play :(
The game starts, I see a little of the game world for a second, then it crashes.
Some empty "crash handler" (title) window comes up, but without any information inside, and closes directly after, then windows generates another crash window that says: "Totem.exe has stopped working [ok]".

Some proper debugging messages would REALLY be appreciated.

So I have a chance to pinpoint what is wrong, or if my computer is too weak or something, now I can't even determine what part of the computer it is that could cause an issue.
I have used ProcessExplorer.exe (besically TaskManager but better), and all it shows is a single spike of "GPU Usage" spiking to 96% but ALL other diagrams look fine (CPU, RAM, Hard-drive, Network,... all fine).

Well that's new.. What kind of graphics card are you packing? The game is pretty graphically intensive so it might be that it just gets overloaded maybe

(1 edit)

Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 (revision: A2).
(Sorry for the delay)

(1 edit)

Ah yeah, that's most likely the issue. That's a pretty low-powered gpu for something like this, sorry bout that :/

(+1)

Dealing with the Creaker In this video. haha What a truly unique and enjoyable game.  Loads of fun. If you havent grabbed it yet...What are you waiting for?

(+1)

Hey Shakles, awesome game!! I'm having a bug with Cow right now where its just nodding after every answer I give and not asking me any more questions. I've tried tons of combinations, but I get the same nod animation for each one. Did I mess something up?

Hmm, well that doesn't seem right, I don't think. I'd have to check in on that, but for now maybe just try again with him? (Either that or you're just really lucky lol)

(+1)

It happened twice. After I would get two strikes, he would ask another question and no matter what response I gave he would keep nodding. I eventually figured it out though after restarting a couple times and figured out just how the language worked. I really really love this concept and hope you continue with it in the future. :)))

(+1)

This game is GREAT!! I love the different ways you can communicate with the beings! I hope there will be more content in the future! You got some good work!

(+1)

Cow was real fun! It's questions actually made me think! I answered the first three questions fine but got it didn't like my last two answers. Philosophical indeed!

(+1)

i've seen so much hype about this game that i just had to get it. but it seems it cannot run on Mac BigSur. any tips? is it possible to run with a terminal command/upx or anything?

Hey! I'm not actually sure. I've never had a Mac to test with, so I've never had the chance to test anything... so, sorry I can't really help you with that :/

(+1)

Loving this very unique game. Still learning it. There is a learning curver. But it is def fun while playing it.

(+1)

Hey, glad you liked it! Yeah it definitely is a game that takes some time to click haha

(+1)

I love all three entitys! Im trying to figure out if there actually is a way to solve the last one though, is there?

Yeah, there is definitely a way to solve the last one. Just gotta make sure to speak clearly and pass his tests essentially

(+1)

This game is really interesting. I really like Creaker and its weird vocalization, it sends shivers up my spine.

I look forward to your future projects!

Thank you! Glad you like it :)

(+1)

My man, nice work.

As a lot of the latest comments, I came here from IGP.
Only saw him complete the first scenario, and that was enough for me.

Nice work @Shakles. Really unique little title you made here.

I'm hoping that some extended version, or even sequel title may be on your mind.

Thank you so much, that means a lot! Actually, I have been thinking of some sort of "sequel" in a rough sense, but that's a long ways off right now

Well, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled!

I'm having an issue where all I can do is walk backwards. Anyone else with this issue?

(+1)

I love this game so far! Saw it from the IGP Vid.
But I'm kind of stuck on the cow, I tried every single word on the first question and every single one seems to be wrong.

Maybe it's just me and my brain is just too smooth to understand the philosophy behind a giant circle cow.
Is there any chance for a short "Tip" section just to understand the language a bit better?

Otherwise amazing game. 14/10 want more of it. Would pay more for a bigger game with story and such :)

(+1)

Nvmd I just beat the cow. Now I finally understand.

Glad to hear it :)

(+1)

I too saw IGP's gameplay video and watched about half of it before jumping here to purchase!! I know there are no plans for updates - but any chance of a possible way to invert the Y axis pretty please?

At the moment I'm really struggling without it :(
Thank you in advance!

Ah, sorry, there isn't any way right now. I might push an update in the future tho

(2 edits)

No problem, I realised after a few minutes that I could stand still and it wasn't a problem! A way to drop the resolution from native 4k to 1080p would be appreciated though (for idiots like me with a 4k screen on a laptop that can't run it without overheating!!) ;)
I can run it, but only for about 15 minutes at a time before it hits 90+degrees! Stupid Alienware laptop :(

(+1)

This looks really cool! I'll be buying it later when I can scrounge the cash, but I was watching IGP play this game and didn't quite understand how he communicated with Creaker.

I'm assuming that you read the top bar of each column to determine the meaning?

Hey, glad you like the look of it! That IGP video was pretty dope. The way you communicate with creaker is by reading the levels: the level height shows what the associated word at that place is. It's up to you to figure out what the string of words means, essentially

Deleted 299 days ago

Haha, yeah the puzzles can be hard :) If you're having too much trouble, I recommend watching some playthroughs online!

(1 edit) (+1)

can my laptop run this game?
heres the specs
processor: Intel® Core™ i5 3337U 1.8GHz with a turbo boost up to 2.7Ghz
graphics card: Intel® HD Graphics 4000
4 Gb of ram

also i have a question is this a full release of the game and not a demo or beta?
and when is the next update coming?

Ooh, i doubt it. That graphics card especially in quite underpowered for it. Though you can try to run it anyways, who knows?

As for the updates: there aren't any. I might put out a bug fix update or something every once in a while, but no new content would be added. It's not really that kind of game. Also, it's a full release, not a beta.

oh ok thanks :)

Hello! The concept seems very cool but unfortunately i am unable to launch te game! When i click to launch it nothing happens even if i launch in admin  mode.

Hmm that's strange.. I don't think it's because of your computer's specs, so it might just be that something messed up when you downloaded it, so maybe try re downloading it

(+2)

Hola.

it's possible make something to help with that? like a fanmade traduction or something like that?
i will be very happy if i can be helpful in that.
the game looks amazing 0w0

(+1)

Not done yet, but I love the game so far! I've encountered a few bugs, should I elaborate on them here or is there a specific spot to report them?

Glad you’re liking it! You can elaborate on them here

(+1)

I forget the exact order my responses (I can jot them down next time I go through if that helps), but at some point in Wreckingball, the nice one responded and I only had one option, the "end sentence" dot. Clicking it doesn't seem to do anything, and the game over screen doesn't appear, so I'm not sure if that's a dead end or a bug.

The other 2 issues are a lot simpler tbh. Some of the Creaker responses aren't selectable, and Cow's model doesn't load, though I can hear the sounds of it moving its weird disk face thing.

(+1)

Just wanted to say that I'm running into the same issue with Wreckingball. I only have the end sentence dot, selecting it does nothing, and there is nothing else I can do. I'm not sure if this is an intentional end (I think our convo left us in a happy place so maybe the alien doesn't want to talk more) but if so, I think there should be some type of game over screen in that case.

Ah yeah, that dot bug seems to be more common than I thought. It's definitely not part of the game, so I'll see if I can find a fix for it today.

(+1)

Yeah that dot bug is going to be fixed soon. Im not sure what could be causing those two other bugs, but ill look into them as well!

(+1)

Thanks for looking into that! I wanted to throw out that I am also getting the same issue with some Creaker options not being selectable. For me, they have always been in the bottom left if that is helpful. Usually I can select options in that square but then eventually, some cannot be selected. The Cow model loads fine for me, but my PC does have decent specs. Thanks again, I love the game!

Thanks! I just posted an update that addresses all of that actually, so be sure to check that out!

(+1)

Hey! Finally had the time to try the new version of the game, encountered a bug on what might be Wreckinball's victory state. It's a tad spoilery, is it ok if i post it here?

Oh, that's fine! You can post it here

(+2)

dude this game is awesome. i would love to see a bigger version of it with a partial story and an actual endgame. if you have played ea's FE that would be an amazing way to make this game. i am a writer for stories if you need some help with a story but this game has potential and i havent even finished the first beast yet

Thanks man, that means a lot! I don't really plan on elaborating on this game much, or really making a sequel per se so I don't think i'll be in need, but i'm glad you find it engaging!

huge pleasure man

(+1)

Mouse sensitivity was unfortunately too high for me as well, but the concept of this game is fasinating! I do worry that I might not be able to respond fast enough if any real-time element is involved in this game. This game is tagged as horror - is there jumpscares of any kind involved?

Nope, no jumpscares at all. There also aren't any major real-time elements either, aside from a part where you have to rotate a wheel to talk. Yeah, the mouse sensitivity seems to be everyone's Achilles's heel, I just updated the game and added a sensitivity slider, so give that a whirl!

(+1)

Awesome! Thank you very much :D

I would love it but I hate it my computer is good enough and it won't work its just a black screen with noises its real annoying and also I'm on Mac

Oh boy, that doesn't sound good. That might mean that the Mac port is broken? I haven't heard many comments from Mac users, so I can't say for sure if that's what's going on. Either way, I've updated the Mac release port, see if this new one works!

nope :/ :.(

Hmmm, well then i'm not quite sure what might be the issue. I'll need to look into it

Same, i was so excited to play the game but it's just a black screen to me :(

(+1)

The mouse sensitivity is extremely high :(

Other than that it was a lot of fun

Lol yeah, sry 'bout that. That's literally just my usual mouse sensitivity :/

(1 edit) (+1)

I don't know why but it won't load, I am playing on MacOS and it just sits on a black screen with an eerie ambience sound playing, you would expect this intro from a lot of horror games but it just doesn't change. How do I fix this?

Im not sure, but that definitely isn't intended. It could be a bug. Does this happen every time you open it?

(+1)

Yes

(+1)

Same with bittersweet

Alright, then that's probably a performance issue. Both games require pretty good specs, so i'm guessing it's because your comp isn't strong enough

aw

(1 edit) (+1)

i just discovered this game yesterday and its sooo gooood. If you have the time it would be great to add settings and stuff, if not thats fine. I know you said you dont have any plans for this game, but i just love the atmosphere and the sense of scale of these creatures that id really like you to do something with this. It was really fun trying to translate the languages to english and then to croatian and trying to figure out what they were trying to say. I do wish you could be friends with them tho ;( #lovetheorb

(+1)

Haha thanks! Never would of thought of translating it to other languages; that's really cool! Not saying it's never gonna happen again, just that I'm currently doing stuff for other projects for a while

(3 edits) (+1)

I love this. Do you have plans to do more of this in the future?

I "beat" Cow (though I'm not sure how?) and finally beat the others.

Also were you at least partially inspired Close Encounters of the Third Kind? Creaker definitely gives off those vibes.

(+1)

Plans for this kind of game? Not really. I usually like to explore different genres, but if I get a bunch of new ideas for a "translation" game, I just might.

As for inspiration, Close Encounters wasn't on the table at all actually, since I haven't gotten around to seeing it yet. I'm actually making a little blog post about the game rn, i'll be talking about all that!

(1 edit) (+2)

I LOVED this game! It was so creative and the massive entities were so incredible to look at. This was wonderfully made and the translations were so fun to figure out. I was able to beat every one and made a small walkthrough/review of the game.

I had more issues understanding Cow than the others. I felt like I was doing more trial and error with it than actually understanding it; I'm not sure if I totally grasped how to use the dial. However, Cow's design was my favorite :-)

Thanks for making this awesome game, I'd love to keep playing more just like this!!

Thanks, man! Glad to see you like it! The cow def does have a weird and abstract language ( Love the vid and review series btw! :) )

(+1)

Thank you so much, that means a lot! I'd love to see more of this game or other ones like it in the future! :-)

(+1)

Is there a way to turn down the graphics? It's a beautiful game and I'd love to spend more time with it, but it takes too long to load between screens (and melts my computer). I'm also having trouble with my mouse sensitivity.

It really is a well-thought-out concept, and I love the creepy tone in the visuals, music, and story. I'm glad that I at least got the chance to dip my toes in, thanks to the sale. If only my computer were beefier!

(+1)

Ah, unfortunately there isn't. It was made in a very short time-span, so I didn't really have the time to optimize properly or add options. Sorry 'bout that! Glad you like it though!

(+1)

Yeah, same. My computer would barely open the main menu.

(+1)

Hi! Like with Bittersweet, thanks for the freebie!

But I'm afraid the Linux build for this game is borked as well. In this case, the game crashes as soon as you select an entity. Judging by the Unity logs, the problem seems to have to do with save file managing.

This is the error I found at first: https://pastebin.com/2HN4ws8n

Then, after I manually created an empty TotemSaveFile.dat, I got this error: https://pastebin.com/hTd5wznK

Again, like with Bittersweet, the Windows build worked alright with Wine and DXVK.

Agh, thanks for telling me, the error really helped! Will try to fix that soon. Do you know if saving works on Windows on your end?

(+2)

After experimenting for a bit, I guess the answer to your question is "Yes", because:

  1. After managing to make the Creaker go, its entry on the entities list is now green
  2. If I quit the game and start it again, the Creaker entry is still green

However:

  1. If I select the Creaker, I can go through its process all over again (though that's probably the intended behavior)
  2. If I go back to the menu in the midst of a conversation with an entity, my partial progress isn't saved (again, that's just probably an intended feature and not a bug)
  3. Until I "beat" an entity, no save file is created at C:\users\MYUSERNAME\AppData\LocalLow\Shakles\Totem, and the same "file not found" exception that I experienced with the Linux build, is also thrown to the Player.log file

So in conclusion, I'm no longer sure the "file not found" exception was relevant to the crashes with the Linux build... :\

PS: The game was rather hard to play because I didn't get a little dot in the middle of the screen acting as a crosshair, but that could well perfectly be a Wine issue...

My god, the Cow is probably the scariest of the creatures. It's just so ridiculously massive, and it's the one that wants to talk philosophy.

Haha, yeah, he's a chunker all right. Nice vid! (Currently nearly done my next project, btw!)

(+1)

Sorry it took me so long to get back to it! Cow and Totem are set to release next Monday.

Awesome! Loved the vid! (I suggest you download the latest update though, I fixed a major bug with the Cow ^)

(+1)

Oh, no. I recorded a while ago, and I got past the cow on the first question and was like "That can't be right." And then I spent a while trying to at least get all five questions, and never could, so I just moved on to Totem.

Oh, that's a bummer, that's exactly what I patched too. Oh well, at least it's fixed now

(+1)

This is my new favorite game genre. It's a whole new type of puzzle game.

(+1)

Thank you so much! That really means a lot! Glad you like it :)

(+1)

Are there any plans for a Linux version ?

(+1)

Currently there aren’t any plans, but perhaps in the future sometime that might happen

(+1)

Fair enough. If you do change your mind and are able to make a Linux version count me in for a purchase !

(2 edits) (+3)

A creative and truly unique experience! I've only managed to "finish the conversation" with one of the beings so far, but I'm eager to try and figure out how to talk with the others.

I don't think this game is for everyone, but if you don't mind putting in a bit of work, it feels pretty rewarding when you begin to understand each other.

Thank you so much! That's pretty much exactly what i wanted it to be, so i'm glad it turned out that way! Btw, there indeed was a glyph missing on the pause screen, sorry 'bout that! I'll fix that asap
