Sequel Update 2

<-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><->

Heyo! It's me again.

<-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><-><->

So it's been a while since my last update on "Carnavâl", the Tôtem sequel.

And I'll get right to it: It's dead.

That last post talking about my break from it was true, but I just never felt the desire to go back. The project stagnated pretty bad before the break and I lost motivation and it kind of lost its way. Also, this really taught me a valuable lesson in hyping something before it's really set in stone... because anything can happen :^)

The project had some really cool languages, like a body language and a concert strobe language, so I'm probably going to reuse those.

You had the ability to create your own conversations in the language editor, so you could share conversation files if you wanted. You could also preview the ones which were dynamic.

The whole concept of the 3 themes also spawned some super sick language concepts, one of which is a dismemberment and pain language.

So yeah, the Carnavâl game is dead... But still canon.

To you guys, Carnavâl is the project that died. But to me, it'll be the thing that started everything. I didn't have any larger idea about Tôtem when I made Tôtem. I had profusely said that I didn't want to be the "Tôtem guy" as I kept rehashing sequel after sequel because the first one did well. However, working on Carnavâl I had come up with some insanely convoluted ideas and concepts that evolved into a Tôtem universe. So from now on, Type to Continue and Bittersweet are both part of that universe. The next game that I'm going to be releasing, Gallerie, which will be part of The Dread X Collection 5 (see my previous post), will be part of the Tôtem universe, too. In fact it's kind of follow-up, and it takes place roughly 20 years after the events of Tôtem.

Also, I should also say that things haven't been dead at all during that time after the break. During the rest of 2021, I had moved on to doing 3 other projects during that time, all of which are Tôtem universe games. Although they aren't fleshed out enough for me to talk about them, lest I risk them turning into other Carnavâls :)

Also I should say that Language games probably won't be coming back. At least not for a while. I've said this before, but while coming up with languages and implementing them is fun, creating the conversations themselves is an absolute nightmare. It literally took me a full week to do the conversations for Tôtem because it was just so tedious. Ughhhhh. It's the worst kind of hell, trust me. It's like creating puzzles by solving puzzles, for each and every single sentence.

So yeah, thanks for your continued support and kind words, and I hope you guys aren't too disappointed by this news :(

I leave you with this:

Cheers,

Shakles

Thank you for making Tôtem, it's still one of the best games I've played and I can't wait to see what you do next, even if it's not a sequel or related to what you've already created.
Can't wait for more news on your next endeavours!

No worries. Still looking forward to whatever else you decide to make.

Hi there, thank you for sharing these news ! I like reading this "But to me, it'll be the thing that started everything.".

So if this means it is not an end, how could we be disappointed ? Thank you for sharing and I'll gladly play your other projects :)
